Bebe Roberts Freeman
Retired STARKVILLE — No services will be held for Bebe Roberts Freeman. Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Freeman, of Starkville, died Nov. 2, 2007 in her home. She was born in Meridian and graduated from Meridian High School. She is a graduate of Mississippi University for Women (MSCW), and holds a Master’s Degree from The University of Cincinnati. She was a teacher for 30 years, teaching in the public schools in Meridian, Luling, La., Washington, D.C., and Cincinnati. She was a community activist, union organizer in Sacramento, Cal., a member of American Federation of Teachers, American Association of University Women, The Oktibbeha County Chapter of the Federation of Democratic Women, and a lifetime member of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. She lived in New Orleans for twelve years, enjoying and loving the music, second-lining and diversity, and considered this wonderful city her home. Her passion was social justice. Survivors include her mother, Mary Roberts of Flowood; her husband of 41 years, Harry Freeman, of Starkville; a son, Ben Freeman and his wife, Missy; grandson, Richard "Rick" Freeman, all of Louisville, Ky.; Mary Roberts, her best friend. She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Roberts of Meridian. Memorials may be sent to The Laurie M.
